It's finally 2010

Happy 2010. Please enjoy this seemingly carnivorous newt. My wishes for the new year include getting more blog followers and seeing more diverse blog updates. Also, a job would be cool.

It's "SA"...not "Essay".

My friend Lauren and I spent some time making stamps earlier this week. By "stamps" I really mean "a huge mess". We received a request to design a simple logo and create a stamp for the winter soiree held by Thomas Nelson Community College's Student Association. Naturally, we had to make some mistakes before getting it right; we made a stamp for "Essay" instead of "SA", so we ended up having to redo the whole thing...at least we got some practice in, right?
Really, though, we had a lot of fun. There are only photos of Lauren testing the stamps, but I promise that I did some work, too!

Website newness.

Please enjoy the freshly revamped ceeveeillustration.com, now with less elegance and more me. You might want to wear sunglasses.

Cats.

A friend of mine is holding a "Grand Cheshire Ball" for Halloween, and invited other illustrators to invent their own cats inspired by Carroll's Cheshire. Being the geek that I am, I made one.

Grimm & Grimm

For a while during the summer I was doing a lot of drawing for a fairy-tale spinoff story featuring the brothers Jakob and Wilhelm Grimm. The challenge was to do one drawing a day for one, two, or three months. Here's some of the stuff from the month I did.

Gretel's house concept.

Gretel's house. It's actually on the spot where the witch's house once stood. Gretel gave up sweets and spent her adolescence learning how to grow fruits and vegetables. She also used the witch's books and notes to learn magic. Her brother, Hansel, travels most of the time in search of seeds and saplings to expand the variety of his sister's garden.

Gretel costume color combos. I like G best.

The brothers and one of their note books. They have a pile of books just like it, all filled with notes on folklore and myths.

Thick blood.

You know when you sit still for a long time and you can almost feel your blood getting thick? I feel like that.

Anyway, while all of you are having group sketch times, I'm down here with a cat, an old lady, and an Intuos3 for company. I make ridiculous vector graphics and continually throw myself at the t-shirt printing industry to avoid a vegetative state.

Various degrees of vector smush, mostly in the form of birthday cards for friends.

This image is in the running (well, maybe bringing up the tail end of the running) at Shirt.woot's weekly contest. You can even vote for it if you've bought a shirt from the site before.

This cricket bat shirt would very much like to go to print, and could do so with your kind votes.

I'm looking forward to harassing the Richmond population in November.

Up, Left, Right

Sometimes I get working on a serious illustration, but then I get distracted by some scrap paper and this kind of thing happens.
